I am a lifelong Waldorf student, former Glenbrook camper, and aspiring teacher who loves spending time outdoors and working with children. I chose to work at Glenbrook this summer as a counselor because the inclusive environment, diverse curriculum of activities, collaborative community building, and creative outdoor learning emulate the values and qualities I was raised with and want to foster in my work with children. I have a lot to share with Glenbrook this year. I have a lot of experience working with children both in the familial, school, and camp setting and so want to bring this experience to my work here this summer. I also have a lot of experience both learning and working in a Waldorf environment so am well versed in the values, qualities, and skills that philosophy strives to convey with the world. My own interests include playing the guitar and cello, as well as photography and generally being outside. I currently attend SUNY Albany, where I am pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science and Applied Math. My intention is to teach math in a Waldorf school upon graduation, as well as continuing to pursue my passion in music on the side. I have lots of experience with creating art and attending art classes, and I also enjoy working with young people.
Performance Teacher
Sydney
My name is Sydney, my pronouns are she/her. I am the performance teacher. This summer I will be teaching campers the fundamentals of acting and performing through collaborative games and exercises. This is my first year as a staff member at Glen Brook, however I am a former Summer and Winter camper, and have been coming to Glen Brook through The Waldorf School of Garden City on class trips since I was very young. For me, Glen Brook has become a second home and a sort of respite from the fast-paced environment of New York City, where I am currently attending college. The combination of the environment, the people, and strong sense of community have made Glen Brook a place I want to come back to for as long as I can. I hope to share my passion, my energy, and love for theatre with the campers and staff. Six years later, I’m back for the first time as a counselor. Glen Brook embodies the qualities of an engaged and caring community. After over a year of social distancing and relative disconnection from friends and families, I wanted to participate in growing the supportive community I felt as a camper. I am excited to share my love of music and nature with camp this summer, and to work to inspire a sense of communal responsibility in the ways we work and play.
