Our Incredible Founders
William and DJ Harrer
Camp Glen Brook was bought and founded by William Harrer on April 28th, 1946. He was committed to creating a magical summer camp experience for children and with his wife, DJ Harrer, they made Glen Brook into the special place that it is today to so many.
After their time as directors, the Harrers gifted Camp Glen Brook to Peter and Betty Curran, who in turn, gifted Glen Brook to the Waldorf School of Garden City, so that children could have access to the magic of this place year-round.
Camp Glen Brook was founded on the spirit of philanthropy and continues to exist thanks to the generosity of those who love it.
Glen Brook's Historians
David White
This celebration of Glen Brook’s founding day would not be possible without the contributions of David White: long-time camper, staff member, and unofficial Glen Brook historian. David White’s contributions include many of the historical photos, the William Harrer Journal, and countless stories and details about Glen Brook’s early days. His family also donated the house and piece of property that we now refer to as White Meadows to Camp Glen Brook. David White passed away last year, but his contributions to Camp Glen Brook and his memory are permanent fixtures of this magical place.
Siegfried Finser
Siegfried Finser, long-time camper and staff member at Glen Brook as well as student and teacher at The Rudolf Steiner School, shares his story about Glen Brook’s founding, and the work he did alongside William Harrer in the 1940s to make Glen Brook what it is today.
