Ben Amaral

School Program Instructor

Since 2023

Ben grew up in upstate New York where he greatly enjoyed collecting hickory nuts (and eating them!), trying to start bow drill fires, and folding origami. When he was about twelve, he moved into a popup tent trailer and traveled with his parents and 3 younger siblings across the United States. They lived in Joshua Tree, California for much of the time, and traveled in a slightly larger trailer, visiting national parks and other interesting destinations the rest of the time.

Many years and one sibling later, Ben found himself living in suburban Delaware with his family. He decided he wished instead to be in New England, so he applied to work at Camp Glen Brook during the summer of 2022. He loved it! So he decided to come back February of 2023, and has been working here since, as a camp counselor and School Program Instructor. Ben loves many things, including primitive skills such as friction fire making, edible plant identification, and shelter building. He loves hiking, exploring creeks and ponds, and looking at the night sky. He also enjoys origami, card games, photography, playing running games, singing, solving Rubik’s Cubes, walking barefoot, and much much more. He loves spending time with kids (and adults) of all ages, and is fascinated by how different children learn best.
