College Credit for Gap at Glen Brook

We are thrilled to announce that gappers can now receive college credit for their work at Gap at Glen Brook!  This exciting development is possible thanks to our accreditation by the Gap Year Association (GYA), a national nonprofit coordinating the growing gap year movement through robust standards and accreditation.  Gap at Glen Brook has been fully accredited by the GYA since 2018.

We have developed two approved courses, and are working on two more, that are woven into the workshops and activities of the semester.  Participants can opt in to these courses or not, but still have largely the same foundational experience.  By taking on college credit, these gappers will engage with our core content more deeply through text study, written reflection, and seminar discussion.  We are eager to work with gappers to enhance their gap experience in this way.

What are the courses we’re offering?  ESM 101: Environmental Sustainability focuses on hands-on learning opportunities to explore the impact of sustainable agricultural practices on our planet, food, and social systems.  What better place than our farm to sink your teeth into these delicious questions?  PSY 204: Psychology as Social Science prompts participants to explore the ways in which human individuality is impacted and defined by different social contexts.  This question is in Gap at Glen Brook’s DNA, so aligning our core workshops and reflective sessions with this topic has been rewarding already.

Look to future articles to see what other courses we’ll be offering!
