William and DJ Harrer
Camp Glen Brook was bought and founded by William Harrer on April 28th, 1946. He was committed to creating a magical summer camp experience for children and with his wife, DJ Harrer, they made Glen Brook into the special place that it is today to so many.
On April 28th, 2025, we will honor the legacy and spirit of philanthropy of the Harrers with a one-day giving campaign on the day Camp Glen Brook was founded 79 years ago.
History of Philanthropy
After their time as directors, the Harrers gifted Camp Glen Brook to Peter and Betty Curran, who then ran the camp for many years. Peter and Betty Curran then gifted Glen Brook to the Waldorf School of Garden City, so that even more children could have access to the magic of this place.
Camp Glen Brook was founded on the spirit of philanthropy and continues to exist thanks to the generosity of those who love it.
