Woodshop Teacher

Each summer Glen Brook hires one wood shop teacher.   This teacher has a vision for age appropriate projects, and can help instill a love of working with wood. This teacher also helps older campers plan and execute appropriate projects during their summer. The teacher teaches all of the wood shop classes throughout the summer, plans projects, and prepares materials. While our wood shop teachers are typically residential counselors who are involved in all the Camp activities, we have also hired teachers who come just to specifically teach their activities. The minimum time commitment for this position isL

  • Participating in staff training week starting June 24th. This would involve planning and prepping materials
  • Teaching classes, typically on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, though there are special events and end of Camp days that are different.
  • Between two and three classes taught most of those days. From 9:30-10:45, from 11:00-12:15, and from 2:30-3:30.

Salary range: $2,300-3,000 based on experience

Specific Responsibilities:

-Engage with campers passionately and responsibly
-Ensure safety of all participants in the shop
-Plan out all the projects that will take place for younger campers, and prepare possible projects for older campers
-Inventory and order any necessary materials
-Operate the power tools safely to prepare materials
-Keep the wood shop tidy, clean, and organized
-Be a positive and contributing member of the Camp community
 

Minimum Qualifications:

-Experience in woodworking and using power tools
-Experience teaching or working with children
