This week the WSGC 5th grade came to Glen Brook for a week focused on botany. Coming on the heels of our big October snow storm, we had over a foot of remaining snow on the ground for the week's festivities. The students arrived on Halloween, and started the week with pumpkin and gourd carving, and trick-or-treated to various Glen Brook buildings for home made desserts, before returning to the wood stove and a story from Mr. Reynolds. The class visited Amos Fortune's grave site in nearby Jaffrey, having just read the story of his life. The students learned a lot about trees and forestry- we are preparing to cut trees for our forestry management project, and the students were excited to learn how that works. They also made their first hike up Mount Monadnock as a class- despite the deep snow, the students were wonderful, smiling, and excited throughout the whole trip. A class of true hikers, we're excited to have them back and hike Monadnock in fairer weather.
