Maple Sugaring Weekend #2: Friday, March 26th - Sunday, March 28th

Some 100 people from New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New Hampshire gathered for a second Maple Sugaring Weekend at Glen Brook from March 26th to 28th, 2010. The weekend coincided with New Hampshire's Maple Weekend, which meant Glen Brook also hosted an open house at the sugarhouse. Participants assisted in all activities to produce maple syrup, from wood cutting to testing and boiling, to bottling. All the wood was cut and split for next year's operations. Despite the year's early spring, Glen Brook's sugarhouse will have produced a respectable crop of syrup.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the issuance of the first-ever Maple Sugaring Master's Certificate for Max C. of Long Island for his work at the Maple Sugaring Weekend. Having earned his apprentice card last year as an 8th grader, this season he assisted in all operations of the sugarhouse, and then successfully completed a two-part exam: managing the sugarhouse's operations for one hour and successfully passing an oral exam on the production of maple syrup.
