Campers flying to camp may borrow pillows and blankets
Full or 2nd Half Campers should bring Closing Banquet Clothes:
A party dress for girls and a dress shirt and slacks for boys. This is a
dress-up occasion. You may pack these clothes with other camp clothes or
deliver them on Parent Weekend.
Personal Items As one of our goals at camp is to live simply and
transcend some of the everyday distractions and intrusions of contemporary
life, we ask that some items that may be part of campers’ lives at home or
school not be brought to camp. These include electronic devices or games of
all types; weapons (including pocket knives), fireworks, distracting games, fads or
crazes (e.g. Pokeman cards, D&D, Magic cards, virtual pets), magazines or
books which we feel are not healthy for children (e.g., glamour magazines, gun
magazines, violent, cynical or sexual comics or magazines, supermarket
tabloids, some gaming magazines, provocative posters,
magazines, calendars; etc.) Time at Glen Brook is governed by our wonderful
brass bell; campers may not have watches, clocks, or alarms.
Please do not bring junk food or candy! Packages of food arriving by mail
will be returned at parent’s expense. Other care package ideas: books,
puzzles, games, tee-shirts, magic tricks, sticker books, stationary,
cameras.
Inspection Policy While we are very conscious of and respect
personal privacy, for health and safety reasons we reserve the right for the
director, or persons he designates, to inspect all campers' belongings
including any packages sent to camp. Campers must unpack all of their
belongings at arrival and open any packages in the presence of their
counselor or a director.
Clothing Standards Any graphics or messages on clothing must be tasteful and responsible.
Alcohol/ tobacco ads, double entendre, offensive, grotesque or violent
pictures and messages are unacceptable here.
We ask that clothing and appearance in general be reasonably modest in
style and cut realizing this is summer camp, not school. While we very
much support openness, an acceptance and celebration of a healthy body
image, and freedom of self expression, we have found that certain
deliberately provocative styles have been creeping into camp clothing,
especially of some of the older girls. We are not getting out our
rulers, but we ask that shorts not be too short, hip-huggers not too low, or
necklines too extreme. Swimwear is quite naturally revealing, but we
do again ask that extremes be avoided. While we have a "Camp
Mom" to help police this, we ask parents and campers to self-select
clothing that will be camp friendly. If you have questions, please
contact us.
Valuables
which must be brought to camp, such as passports, plane
tickets, travel money, etc. are to be checked with the director for
safekeeping until departure. Campers may not have cash or valuables in their
bunks. In light of our active outdoor program, expensive or precious clothing,
jewelry, or other valuable items should stay safely at home.
ALL articles, including the clothing worn on the ride to camp, must be
plainly and securely marked in wash-proof form. Don’t forget to mark
sneakers, sleeping bags, jackets, packs disposable cameras, water bottles,
etc. (For your convenience, a form from one of the many label companies may
be in your packet.) A Sharpie is amazing.
We will try our best to help keep track of the estimated 10,000 personal
items in camp at any time, but we cannot be responsible for losses or
damages.
