The last day of Winter Camp is always high excitement. The day began with a rousing hockey tournament, some on boots, others on skates. The darkhorse team, Romania, made short work of every team it faced, including the staff, winning in overtime thanks to a bungled goal that bounced off the director's knee and the program director's skate. Very embarrassing. We then had various relays, bobsled races (campers piled up two and three high on a sled), belly slides, a spirited figure skate show, and the ubiquitous team-country cheer. The evening ended with the second annual Winter Music Festival, in which each group and several soloists performed musical skits. Acts ranged from the ridiculous (Bobcat boys dressed as short-legged trolls singing about their love for their pillows) to the sublime (Sarah playing a Chopin waltz, Opus 69, on the piano). Our two land stewards, Dan and Daphne, emceed, also thrashing out soaring fiddle and guitar tunes throughout the evening.
