It's raining again today here at Glen Brook, but spirits remain high. Yesterday campers went on a rainy hike through the woods from camp, northbound on the Glen Brook trail, past Babbidge Reservoir, until popping out near Otter Brook Dam. Fortunately, the sun came out long enough to enjoy a swim at the lake, although this morning we've already had an inch of rain and more is on the way. June passed without two consecutive days of sun - unheard of, even by grumbling-locals' standards. Today, we're engaged in creative indoor (and some outdoor) play: knitting and "parlor games" in the living room by the woodstove, wood shop class continues apace (carved fishes, wooden spoons, and swords are the most popular projects), while nature hikes have proceeded despite the weather. One group, the Foxes, participated in a stream walk and (very wet) relay race; another went on a nature-scavenger hunt. Our camp dryers are running round-the-clock; the hay remains uncut (we need three days of sun to cut, rake into windrows, and bale). The art studio has been updated and refurbished with camper projects including nature stationery, string design, beading and small boxes decorated with colored beeswax.
